History information for Clifton Masonic Hall Halloween event:

Clifton Hall in Birkenhead began life as an elegant private residence in the mid-1800s and, over the years, has become a place surrounded by chilling stories from those who have spent time inside.

This Grade II listed building is now known as Clifton Masonic Hall, a Masonic Lodge set across multiple floors with attic spaces, winding corridors, and dark, atmospheric cellars. Visitors and investigators often report doors moving without explanation, the sensation of being watched, and the unmistakable sound of heavy footsteps approaching—only for no one to be there.

The building has developed a strong reputation as one of Merseyside’s most haunted locations. With each investigation, new experiences are shared—shadowy figures glimpsed in doorways, faint voices echoing through empty rooms, and sudden drops in temperature that leave visitors uneasy. Some paranormal groups have even nicknamed it “The Temple of Terror,” a title that reflects the intense atmosphere many claim to feel inside.

Originally constructed around 1845 as a villa within the Clifton Park estate, the building showcases classic Victorian architecture, including symmetrical design, decorative stonework, and grand interior spaces. It was later adapted for use as a Masonic hall, with ceremonial rooms and hidden areas adding to its mystery.

In 1974, Clifton Hall was granted Grade II listed status in recognition of its architectural and historical importance—ensuring that both its physical structure and its long, intriguing history would be preserved for generations to come.
